Class Experience

The students will learn how to use guidelines and establish proportions to create and draw the basic shape of the subject. The class will use the guideline shapes to fill in detail on the drawing, outline and shade the subject, and create a clean, realistic sketch. The instructor may ask to see student's progress periodically through-out the class. The lesson is intended to be fun and encourage the development of a love of art. Students will need a standard piece of white paper or a sketchbook, a sharpened pencil, and an eraser (PaperMate pink pearl eraser works well). By the end of the class, the students should have a realistic sketch of a fish.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Art is my passion and I love teaching to my young audience. My past students have really enjoyed being in my art classes and I would love to share my experience and love of art with the students of OutSchool. I enjoy teaching all kinds of art topics and will always be open to suggestions from my students or parents. Some of my favorite topics to teach include realistic sketching/drawing techniques, character drawing and design, and watercolor landscapes/cityscapes. However, the list of topics I enjoy doesn’t end with these examples. My teaching method begins with taking my students step-by-step through the project’s basic techniques each class and I explain how these basic techniques can be applied to other aspects of art and drawing. I like to challenge and push my students, but we also have a lot of fun in a laid back and friendly environment. I let my students explore what techniques they like to use and which ones they don’t. Learning with me is all about practice and finding what you enjoy doing! Art never has to be perfect or done in one specific way, that is the beauty of it. I believe everyone can be creative and make art that is unique to themselves. I want my students to be able to relax and have fun in my classes while also learning new things and finding what art they enjoy the most.
