US Grade 6 - 9
Intermediate - Advanced Level
In this one-time class, students will learn to draw realistic puffins, using colored pencil. For every class, I will demonstrate each step and have students complete that step along with me. My classroom is a calm, fun, and creative environment where discussion between teacher and students is encouraged and a great place for students to make lasting friendships. I ask students questions throughout the lesson to check for student understanding and increase engagement. Students may interact with each other if they want to share what they learn during class. What will students learn? 1. Students will learn techniques to sketch a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of two puffins (head to chest). 2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast. 3. Students will learn techniques to create smooth, layered feather texture, using colored pencil. 4. Students will learn techniques to create texture and balance in the background of their drawing, using colored pencil. 5. Students will learn a few facts about puffins.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Weber State University
Welcome to my teacher page! My name is Torri McCarrey, and I am very passionate about teaching visual arts and core curriculum. My core curriculum courses often use an art integration approach to learning (e.g., drawing your own monster using adjectives). I also teach realistic animal drawing, landscape painting, holiday themed art, and more! I am a certified teacher with two Bachelor of Science Degrees in teaching, Elementary Education (kindergarten through sixth grade) and Early Childhood Education (pre-kindergarten through third grade). I have also drawn realistic and quirky animal portraits for nearly ten years. My values and philosophy of teaching include providing students with a calm and creative learning environment that provides the opportunity for hands-on learning experiences through art integration. I am also an avid animal lover, gardener, and aspiring illustrator and author, (I am currently working towards publishing my first children’s picture book). If you would like to email me, I try to respond within twenty-four hours, Monday through Friday. Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with you!
