US Grade 6 - 8
In this class, students will apply their math computational skills to purchase tickets and snacks, predict the winner and calculate the actions of the players after each inning at a baseball game. The following math skills will be applied: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percents, proportions, ratios, averages, speed, work, perimeter, area, circumference and the Pythagorean Theorem. The final activity will challenge the students to use logic to determine what seat fans sat in and what snack they consumed. The students should have computational skills and an understanding of the game of baseball. Additionally, I would like the students to use a calculator, so it is important that they own and know how to use a calculator. The class will be interactive as they will engage with me, the teacher, as well as other learners as we work together to solve the problems.
Learning Goals
Students will increase proficiency in their math skills as they apply math in a real-world context.
