Class Experience

In this course, students will learn to draw a lollipop with oil pastels. We will observe its shape, color and value, adding areas of shadow and light, and learn simple blending techniques using varying pressure and simple tools to make our drawings look real. I create a relaxed learning environment where students can feel comfortable enough to ask questions, explore the subject, and share their work and ideas. I demonstrate each technique thoroughly and use work samples and visual resources for the students who need that added layer of support.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their observational skills, learn to apply their knowledge of the elements of art (shape, color, value) and explore blending techniques.

Georgia Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hi,
My name is Sonnet Myers and I am a certified art and ESOL teacher who lives and works in Georgia, USA. I am from Jamaica and hold degrees in Design, Art Education, Reading and Reading a ESOL. I have been teaching Art to Elementary students for over sixteen years and have experience teaching middle and high school students in and outside the school setting.

Because I am passionate about learning in general, I integrate my art teaching with other areas, which helps my students to make connections that expand their understandings.

It is my belief that our scholars can thrive in a safe environment where they are encouraged to take risks, to explore new material, and guided in understanding how to recognize, understand, and apply the elements and principles of art.

In my classes, we will develop our observation and creative skills as we draw common objects in our environment, use our imaginations, and learn the language of art. I hope to see you there!
