Description

Class Experience

In this class, we'll learn about some of the real-life genetic mutations and genetic engineering that our favorite superheroes might be based on. From "werewolf syndrome" to super-muscular mice to supertasters, we'll discover how even small changes in DNA could have a big effect. Time permitting, we'll also talk about new genetic engineering technologies like CRISPR and how they are or could be used. Students should have learned about what DNA, genes, and chromosomes are, but I'll offer a...

Students will learn about:
-the structure and function of genes, proteins, and chromosomes
-basic anatomy & physiology as it relates to each of these mutations
-genetic engineering technology and some of the ethical questions about using such technology

I have a bachelor's in molecular genetics and a love for all things X-men!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
