Class Experience

Using age-appropriate language, students will learn practical life skills and an awareness of how the world around them works.

Vocabulary covered in the course will include (but not limited to):
1. Income / Expenses
2. Checking / Savings / Certificate of Deposits (CD's)
3. Bank Statement / Interest
4. Debit Cards / Credit Cards
5. Reconciliation

Class 1 - Reconciliation between checking registers and bank statements was introduced in RLM - Part 2. I will elaborate on how to reconcile both debits and credits. (Only debits were covered in Part 2). A "new life" will be chosen. Students will have the opportunity to choose pets.

Class 2 - Students will be introduced to credit cards and how they impact our financial health. We will focus on the impact of interest paid to creditors and compounding interest. We will not cover credit scores. Students will have the opportunity to take a vacation.

Class 3 - Students will be introduced to a second form of savings, Certificate of Deposits.

Class 4 - We will finish off the series with a game of virtual jeopardy. This game will review all topics covered in Real Life Math. We will end with a virtual class celebration!
Teaching my own children at home, especially with struggling learners, has encouraged me to think "outside the box." I believe that learning occurs when you are enjoying it. Having fun and learning something new simultaneously helps with retention and also builds confidence. I love to see confident students!
There may be OPTIONAL homework assigned.
-Handouts will be provided every week. They will need to be printed and available for class use. This is an important part of our class learning. -Pencils - A calculator (Due to the nature of this course, please make sure your child has a calculator available for class. We will be working with many numbers. One wrong calculation can cause much frustration.)
I will respond to any questions that arise during the week.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
