But when will I ever use this type of math in real life?

Welcome to my Real Life Math series, where students will practice math skills in practical real-life situations. Math is difficult to grasp for some students simply because it's an abstract idea. When students can see how math works in everyday life, math has a "point" and begins to make sense.

In this class, students will learn how and why to keep a budget. We will explore why a budget is necessary and what can happen when we don't budget and then practice creating budgets for specific scenarios in word problems. Students will also have the opportunity to create an "adult" budget (including utilities, daycare, etc.) with realistic costs.

I'm an accountant with a teaching background who enjoys learning and strives to foster a love of learning in students through games and interactive learning. I believe students learn best when they are having fun and interacting with the material.

I have always had a passion for learning and have diverse interests. I'm especially passionate about building strong foundations in language and math. I believe confidence in these two areas will give students the tools to learn almost anything they'd like to in life.

As an accountant, I have expertise in mathematics and finance. I'm an Enrolled Agent and believe everyone should be proficient in budgeting and personal finance. I believe a strong foundation in math is important to develop advanced skills with numbers later in life. Likewise, strong grammar and language skills will help students communicate effectively and give them the tools to learn anything they'd like to. I'm also passionate about culture and language and have formally studied nine languages, including studying abroad. I want to share the world with students through language and exploration.

I hope to share my love of learning with each of my students as they explore their personal interests. In doing so, students will become lifelong learners and continue to grow in and out of the classroom.
