WELCOME to an incredible summer camp to equip you to enjoy speaking opportunities (both big and small) for the rest of your life! Students will have fun in a safe greenhouse class style while gaining a simple, effective framework toward structuring their thoughts toward public speaking; whether in a professional presentation or to a smaller casual audience. The topics and goals of the class are to equip you to find messages to vocalize that matter to you, to give guidance in gathering viable...
Students will learn the start to finish process of developing a message that matters to them. Students will brainstorm speech topic options, connect with what speaking style best fits them, inlay their message into a structure, individually research content, and practice delivering a speech. Students will obtain specific speaking tips during lecture time such as pacing, outlining, forecasting, verbal pauses and tone, being memorable, engaging their audience, eye contact, etc... Students will also practice giving constructive positive feedback to one another without being critical, as well as ways to simply structure thoughts that will help them to even be ready in casual contexts to speak without a lot of preparation.
There are no sensitive or high-risk topics in this class.
This will likely be the most fun you've ever had doing homework, because it is all centered around unlocking messages you're passionate about! Students will spend 2-4 hours in total on homework throughout the Summer Camp, depending how much time you would like to spend researching your topic. Class 1 Homework: -Personal Adventure PDF: Unlock Your Voice, Message and Speaking Style! *Find a fabulous/inspirational spot to journal-answer questions to unlock your voice to bring back to class for group discussion Class 2 Homework: -Viable Research Sources PDF -Speech Structure PDF: Structural Layout; Content Gathering (Personal Stories, Quotes, etc) Classes 3/4 Homework: Students will receive an individualized Rubric PDF response posted to classroom by teacher for post-speech feedback
Students will want to take notes during the lecture time of the first two classes, to refer to as they prepare their speeches. A notebook and pen/pencil will come in handy. It will be helpful to be able to print the class PDF Homework if possible. Inspiration is a big part of this class, and if students have the ability to sit outside or be in a relaxed environment while working on their Voice/Message homework that will be profitable.
Students will receive an individualized Rubric PDF response posted to classroom by teacher for post-speech feedback. The Rubric objective is improvement and constructive positive feedback as opposed to a letter grade in the Summer Camp.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
There is no sensitive content in this class. Student speech topics are to be respectful of one another and Outschool policies. Students have the option to take the free 16personalites.com personality test as part of their message research, should parents want to see that ahead of time.
