This is an on-going course to work on children's reading skills using first grade level books. This level is for 6-7 year-olds who have completed kindergarten and are going into the first grade/are in first grade. This is for students who need a little extra support in their reading and comprehension skills for first grade! We will progressively make our way through the year to books leveled E-I and practice decoding simple words, vocabulary, sight words, making connections with the text, story elements, and comprehension skills. Outline of what will be covered each session: Summer Session: Week of August 16: Book- Our Puppet Show •Retelling •Analyzing Characters • • First Quarter of School Year: (Will Meet Once a Week for 30 Minutes- Times to book will be posted soon!!) Week of September 6: Book- The First Day (Level E) Make, Revise and Confirm Predictions Sequence of Events Week of September 13: Book- The Great Candy Case (Level E) Make, Revise and Confirm Predictions Sequence of Events Week of September 20: Book- Lifeguards (Level E) Connect to Prior Knowledge Main Idea and Details Week of September 27: Book-Hot Air Balloon Parade (Level E) Visualizing Sequence of Events Week of October 4: Book- Backyard Camping (Level F) Ask and Answer Questions Main Idea and Details Week of October 11: Book- Then and Now (Level F) Ask and Answer Questions Main Idea and Details Week of October 18: Book- The Fire House (Level F) Retelling Analyzing Characters Week of October 25: Book- Boo (Level F) Ask and Answer Questions Main Idea and Details If there is time we will play a fun review game for first grade ELA skills. The bright and colorful books will be on my screen. I then screen share with the students on the Zoom call in order for them to see and read the book clearly as well. Learning Goals

Hello! My name is Amanda and I am a licensed PreK-5 teacher and I teach first grade. I have taught kindergarten, third grade, and first grade. Not only that, but I have had many other experiences in a wide variety of grade levels.
