Ready, Set, Read: Letter Sounds and Phonics Pre-K/K Class!

In this 9 week class learners will learn letter sounds and beginning reading skills in a fun and engaging way. We will in part use the Lively Letters program. Lively Letters is a researched based program designed to teach letter sounds.

Class Experience

Students will learn the letter names and sounds for all 26 letters as well as the digraphs th (both voiced and unvoiced), sh, ch, wh, and the sound zh which is important for reading.
Miss Katelynn has been a teacher for the past seven years. For the past two years she has been working as a special education teacher for students in kindergarten through third grade. Miss Katelynn has been trained  to use the Lively Letters program by its creators Nancy Telian and Penny Castagnozzi. She loves to teach and share her passion for learning with her students. It is Ms. Katelynn's goal to show her students that they can be successful in the classroom and help them gain the confidence they need to do so!
Learners may have some optional recommended work to complete outside of class.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will be assessed informally by noting any strengths and struggles with particular sounds. Notes will also be taken on how well they understand phonetic awareness concepts such as rhyming and blending. 
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class may use some Google apps such as Jamboard and Google Slides. Google does not allow children under 13 to create their own accounts. It is recommended that parents set up a Google account for their learner using family link. Students will be accessing Jamboard and Google slides during class time.
