Welcome to Ready, Set...Kindergarten Prep! In this thirteen week course, we will meet twice a week to help your child learn the necessary skills to help prepare them for Kindergarten! In this class, we will introduce a new theme each week. We will explore a variety of themes including weather, animals, space, feelings, and much more. During each class, we will begin with a song and a “Morning Message.” This is a sentence that will relate to the weekly theme. It will contain a new letter and a sight word that we will focus on for that particular lesson. We will practice identifying letters in the message, spelling and writing the sight words. During our first meeting of the week, we will focus on skills to enhance your child’s literacy development (alphabet recognition, phonemic awareness, sight words, handwriting, etc.) During our second meeting of the week, we will focus on basic mathematical skills (shapes, number recognition, counting, understanding quantities, simple addition/subtraction, etc.) Below you can find a detailed outline for what we will be learning each week: Week 1- Theme: All About Me Letters: A and B Math: counting objects 1-5, number recognition Week 2- Theme: Arctic Animals Letters: C and D Math: counting objects 1-10, number recognition Week 3- Theme: Weather Letters: E and F Math: addition 1-5 Week 4- Theme: Feelings Letters: G and H Math: addition 1-10 Week 5- Theme: Farm Animals Letters: I and J Math: shapes Week 6- Theme: Space Letters: K and L Math: AB patterns Week 7- Theme: Seasons Letters: M and N Math: Ab patterns review Week 8- Theme: Five Senses Letters: O and P Math: sorting Week 9- Theme: Transportation Letters: Q and R Math: sorting review Week 10- Theme: Community Helpers Letters: S and T Math: 3-D shapes Week 11- Theme: Fruits and Vegetables Letters: U and V Math: graphing by color Week 12- Theme: Dinosaurs Letters: W and X Math: 3- step patterns Week 13- Theme: Zoo Animals Letters: Y and Z Math: 3- step pattern review I am a very hands on teacher. I involve a lot of props, music, and singing into my lessons to help engage the students. We will learn songs about the various topics to help bring the topics to life. The students do not need to have any prior Pre-K knowledge or experience to participate in this class. I can’t wait to start learning with you!
Learning Goals
In this class, students will gain knowledge of the alphabet, phonemic awareness, number knowledge, enhance their social skills, and most of all have fun!
