In this 90-minute class, students will follow instructions and bake alongside their teacher in order to create a tasty treat. First, we will go over the tools that we will be using in class, as well as the ingredients to make sure everyone is prepared. Students will follow step by step instruction in order to make the cupcake batter and will have opportunity to ask questions as they go. Once the batter is made, we will prepare the cupcake pans with liners (or spray) then fill with batter. We will then bake the cupcakes. While they are baking, we will prepare homemade buttercream frosting and learn how to prepare and fill a piping bag in order to decorate the cupcakes. Once the cupcakes are finished baking and cooled, students will use their recently learned skills to decorate cupcakes with a buttercream swirls.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to measure and mix ingredients, bake and decorate delicious cupcakes, as well as have the opportunity to socialize with their peers.

Parental Guidance
Parental guidance is recommended when the students, especially younger ones, will be using the oven. Also, younger students may need help measuring and using the mixer.

Baking supplies: Cupcake pan Cupcake liners (optional, but recommended) Mixer and beaters (hand mixer is fine) Large mixing bowl Spatula Measuring cups and spoons Cooling rack (optional) Oven Ingredients: All purpose flour Sugar Salt Baking powder 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) Butter, softened Milk (any kind) Eggs Vanilla extract Oil (canola or vegetable oil is recommended) Powdered sugar (4 cups or 1lb)

I have had a passion for baking since I was 6 years old, baking alongside my mother. In 2014, I decided to take cake decorating classes to improve my skills and found an even stronger love for that. A year later, I started my own custom cake business from home and have been very successful ever since. Currently, I homeschool my 3 children and have passed my love for baking onto them and I always find ways to incorporate baking into their lessons. Baking is a great learning experience as we read the recipes and use math skills to measure ingredients.
