Piano Level 1: Keyboard Skills, Songs, and Games for Older Beginners
Class experience
Using the Music Learning Theory research of Edwin Gordon and the adaptation of those ideas to the piano by Marilyn Lowe, this method introduces students to the fundamentals of music study through the study and experimentation with the keyboard. Your learner is right for their class if they're a beginner with a little keyboard experience but are not yet ready to play a melody in one hand and accompaniment in the other. If your learner has no experience, I have a one-week long flex class to...
Students will learn about hearing, describing, and playing music through hands-on experience with the keyboard Students will get experience with basic ensemble playing, as we will sometimes learn duets as we all play together
Homework Offered
Learners may want to review the song we learned during the week to help them build upon the skills we learn.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Students need some cleared space around the piano or keyboard in order to move to rhythms and music. The ideal learning keyboard will have at least 60 keys and touch sensitive playing. Weighted keys and 60 or more notes is best, but not necessary for getting started. So if you have any sort of keyboard, join in and try it out! Learners need Music Moves for Piano, Book 1 (yellow cover) 20$ at MusicMovesforPiano.com. You may join and 'try out' the class for one week before purchasing the book.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students should have Zoom configured so that they can "Use Original Sound"--otherwise your learner's playing will be filtered out as background noise by Zoom.
