Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
This is a beginning reading class where phonics instruction is the main focus.

My teaching style is a combination of direct and explicit instruction with verbal and written student participation, slides, videos, humor, games, brain breaks, and assessments. I value parent/student communication and check messages daily. I respond immediately when I can but always within 24 hours. This beginning unit of phonics instruction should take approximately two weeks to complete if the learner does one lesson each day (approximately 30 minutes per lesson) of the week with weekends off.
Learning Goals
In Unit 1 (10 lessons plus assessment) we cover:

Letter-Keyword-Sound for consonants
Letter-Keyword-Sound for short vowels
Letter Formation for all lowercase letters except q,x,y,z
Sound recognition for consonants and short
vowels
learning goal

Parental Guidance
Most of the time your student will link to my Zoom recording for the lesson. However, sometimes it could be a link to my YouTube channel (link embedded by Outschool) for a lesson video I've posted there or a link to a lesson I've created in Canva, or even an activity on the Fundations website (COPPA compliant). Canva is an approved third-party tool in Outschool. My brain-break activity, GoNoodle (dance videos) is not on the approved list but is COPPA compliant, and I screen share the 2.5 minute light-exercise video songs in the middle of each lesson, so your child will not have direct access GoNoodle, and will only be viewing it through my screen share.
