Reading Your Way for Beginners: One- On- One Tutoring Sessions

These one- on- one lesson are designed to meet the learner where they are at. The lesson, students are explicitly and systematically instructed on how language works. During the first lesson, I will assess the learner to see what strategies are needed and build on the ones already acquired.

We will start each lesson with a reread to build fluency and comprehension skill.

New Book:
When introducing the new instructional-level book. I will introduce new vocabulary through PowerPoint slides. Then, we will do a picture walk to build back ground knowledge. Once the students have been given time to read the book in its entirety, we will discuss the book. I like to use questioning during this time.

Topics consist of high interest fiction and nonfiction topics to meet each learners interests and needs. 

After reading the book new book, we will work on writing and comprehension skills. This is done using thinking maps and journals.

I use a fun hands-on approach to learning by using magnetic letters and thinking maps. 

All learners are welcomed. No background knowledge necessary. I will meet each learner where they are at.
