Class Experience
This class offers 8 reading lessons for readers that need one- on- one tutoring. Each instructional lesson will begin with a review of previously taught skills, which will include a reread and a review of the vocabulary, sight words, word families and blends. This will also help improve reading fluency. I will introduce the new book. Next, we will build word families and blends by hammering, snapping and clapping the words. The student will learn phonics and decoding skills through a multi-sensory approach by making word families and reading familiar and new books.
I have 26 years of teaching experience and two master’s degrees plus 30. I am certified in elementary education, early childhood education, special education, learning disabilities and Primary Montessori. I have the literacy endorsement and I have also been the Literacy Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year. I am trained in Project Read and Ortan- Gillingham. Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will observe to see if students are using the skill that have been taught when reading and if they are able to read the book and answer comprehension questions about the book. I will do running records on learners and convey the findings to the parents.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I will utilize the share screen option so students can see and read the books.
