Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Enjoy your popcorn and read a book!

In this club learners will read and discuss books by their favorite authors over a bowl of popcorn or other favorite snack. Young readers will also complete book reports and share their stories with other club members. Social , reading and writing skills will be emphasized in this class. Reading, writing and reasoning skills will be the focus of this club.

This club is especially designed to keep young learners reading because each week club members will engage in fun activities that are meaningful. The instructor will ask open-ended questions that build thinking skills. Young readers may bring to class any book they choose to share. This is a learner-directed class. Learners will determine the content of the class within the margins of the class format.

Picture books, early reader chapter books and preteen novels are the main focus of this club. Readers will be given book report sheet once they register for class; the sheet will be posted on the wall.

Young readers will learn how to write using the teacher-made book report sheet. Club members will also write book reports and share them with the class each week.

Young readers will bring to club ANY book they may be reading to share them with the club. This is a student-led club that encourages young learners to share their reading and writing experiences with others. Books titles may be emailed to the teacher before class to screen any potential problematic or sensitive subjects. A list of Newberry, Caldecott and NY Times best selling children's book titles will be provided such parents desire suggestions.

Class book sharing rules are as following: (1) We will only share books that honor one another and all people. (2) We will only share books that are positive and encouraging to others. (3) We will only share books that will not offend others. The rules were made to keep the class fun for everyone.
