I have years of experience teaching literacy skills in the elementary school. I am currently working on my Master's in Reading and have taken many professional development courses to continue my craft in providing effective instruction that helps students achieve goals and become successful learners. More than anything, I am just a person who cares and wants children to feel successful and accomplished.
I encourage students and families to read at least 20 minutes a day to improve reading fluency. Asking and answering questions by the student can also help in improving reading comprehension. Some weeks, I may provide a handout that can be completed at home to provide further practice. Any handouts I provide can be found in the classroom tab.
Some weeks, I may provide a handout that can be completed in class or at home to provide further practice. Any handouts I provide can be found in the classroom tab. Please check handout to see if it requires supplies such as glue, scissors, crayons. etc. and have those available for class.
Informal assessment will take place throughout the course. If handouts are provided for practice at home, I would love for the students to post their work in the classroom. I encourage students to shine in our classroom by taking pride in their growth in learning! **Students may l have the opportunity at times to practice test-taking skills as they listen to/read a text and answer 2-3 questions on a handout. This helps them to visually see question formats and practice reading comprehension by answering questions from text.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
