In this ongoing class, students will be introduced to a new word family each session as we make a list of words that fit into the family and then create a drawing to tell our story.
Class experience
This ongoing class is perfect for young readers to begin making words through word families. During each class we will begin with making a list of words that fit into the word family of the day. Then, learners will have some time to draw a picture that tells a silly story using words from the word family we are focusing on. For example, if we are working on the "-at" family, a student may draw a picture and tell us that the "rat" scared the "cat" with a "hat" that looks like a "bat." ...
Students will: -Help make a list of words that fit into the word family of the day -Use these words to create a story through drawing -Be encouraged to write some of the words that they have learned -Practice reading the words that fit into the word family
I love to teach early readers and writers! I have a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in literacy. I taught in a public elementary school for 14 years and I have also homeschooled my own children for the past 11 years. I would love to have the opportunity to work with your young learner.
Please have your student bring a notebook or paper that they can use in class and then keep in a special place to review between classes. Also, please have crayons, colored pencils, or markers available for your learner to use to draw a story as well as a pencil for writing words.
