US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Students will learn words from 26-word families throughout this course. Each word family is broken into easy-to-manage sections, which allows them to focus on two word families per session. Students should be able to identify each short vowel sound before taking this class (a-cat, e-bed, i-sit, o-cot, u-bug) and be able to identify each letter of the alphabet and sound (letter-sound correlation). Our teachers love to have fun and keep our students moving/engaged throughout the entire class. Expect a lot of laughter, singing, and smiles during our time together. This will be an game-based, interactive and engaging class. Each student will have multiple chances to participate and play our word families game. Our teachers will use whiteboards, slides (screen share), and games to help students understand these concepts. Students will learn how to read all the word families for the short vowels. Week of 7/10: Short a Word Families- ab/ad, ag/ap Week of 7/17: Short a Word Families- at/ack, am/an Week of 7/24: Short e Word Families- ed/en, et/ell Week of 7/31: Short i Word Families- id/ig,in, /ill, it/ig Week of 8/7: Short o Word Families- ob/og, op/ot Week of 8/14: Short u Word Families- ub/ug, un/ut This is a part of our Phonics series and can be combined with other classes Short Vowel CVC Vowel Teams Beginning Blends Ending Blends R-Controlled & Vre Words
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the word families. Students will learn to recogonize word patterns, blend and decode in order to help them become better readers.
