Class Experience
We will be working on Fry's 6th 100 Sight Words, VC/CV (as in RABBIT), VC/CVe (as in CUPCAKE), compound words, -ang (as in SANG), -ing (as in KING), and -ong (as in SONG). We will be reading at Guided Reading Levels K-P depending on the reading level of the student as determined in a reading assessment. We will also be working on Vocabulary and Writing in this class. Students will develop strong reading habits and be able to read with confidence.
Sharon Frazier-Verpooten has been teaching for over 30 years and knows how to get the best out of her students. She has an elementary teaching credential, a bachelor’s degree in Music Education, and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Sharon is a leader and trainer in schools and districts throughout the United States. She is a certified in Reading Interventionist, Struggling Reader Specialist, and Music Specialist. Her training in many strategies to maximize student achievement, especially in Reader’s and Writer’s workshop, Gifted and Talented Education, and the AVID college readiness program makes her an invaluable asset to any school or district. Sharon conducts many workshops for other teachers and parents on topics such as The Music/Reading Connection, GATE, AVID, Computer Using Educators, and Social Emotional Learning.
Students will be informally assessed as they read aloud in class.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
