What's included
1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class, students will listen to a read-aloud of a rendition of The Fox and The Stork. Learners will be able to follow along as the teacher reads from the hard copy. Throughout the reading, students will be asked comprehension questions to maintain their attention and focus. Students may be asked to describe the illustrations and recall text to introduce parts of speech. After the reading of the story, students will discuss main elements of the story (i.e. emotions felt by the characters, or how to be kind). This is an all-inclusive classroom that is suitable for all learning levels. Get comfortable, relax, and enjoy! Refer to Class Policies in my profile and do reach out if you have questions. I hope to see you soon! - Teacher Sarah 🎶
Learning Goals
Students will increase reading comprehension skills, literacy, and will describe illustrations with adjectives, nouns, and verbs. As students listen and follow along on the screen, they will improve comprehension and listening skills and will learn about personification. Learners who feel comfortable will answer simple questions about the plot and setting, and will have an opportunity to share personal experiences, time permitting.
Other Details
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
If students prefer to have their own copy of The Fox and The Stork, they are welcome to bring it, but they will get to see the text and pictures just by coming and watching on the screen. It's a specific rendition of this story, so any other copies your child has may not match. Just have your child bring themselves!
Teacher expertise and credentials
I encourage you to check out my resources - created primarily for homeschooling parents and teachers: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Early-Childhood-Essentials
MY TEACHING STYLE
Most of my classes are about grammar (e.g. parts of speech) and other English language content (e.g. long and short vowels OR read-alongs). My classes will have any or all of the following: a song or chant, a prop or two, and hopefully lots of other visuals, like an educational video or realia (like a cup or book from home).
Teaching creates learning when involving music, movement, and student interaction. Gone are the ways (mostly) of strictly using pencil and paper, especially in a time of this pandemic! Students learn in so many ways, so stories and songs are the main mode of transportation for what content I provide. It helps reinforce what students learn and helps them remember years later.
MY CREDENTIALS
I graduated from Arizona State University in 2015 with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, including Special Education. Since 2015, I've taught in a variety of classrooms - both online and in traditional in-person settings, and with students of varying learning levels.
I grew most from differentiating the content to accommodate children who either struggle to retain content or excel and need to be challenged..
I have recently studied ABA therapy, but am *not* actively practicing. I may soon, but the facets of ABA therapy have informed me more about those with ASD. This is *not* an ABA therapy session and I am not an active RBT. My most relevant credential is my Bachelor's and Teaching certificate in Early Childhood, Special Education.
It surprises nobody who knows me that I sing all the time! I sing at church and for social media all the time. If you have Instagram, you can find many of my posts at #SongSnippetsBySarah .
SCHEDULING
If you want to request a certain class at a non-regular day or time, please contact me and I'll see what I can do! If little to no classes have active sections, contact me and I can get one going! Don't be dismayed if I've not had classes active for some time.
CONNECT WITH ME
I look forward to connecting with you more! Ask me a question, post reviews, and find a class that your child(ren) will love!
POLICY

Class Policies:
1. If a class only has one learner enrolled that has a minimum of 2+, I will more than likely move forward with class, modified for one-on-one, unless the parent or learner requests to transfer to a section with more students in it (if available).
2. I will admit students to the classroom right at the scheduled time, or no earlier than 5 minutes til, even if not every student is present. We will start class by 5 minutes after class time.
2b. If there is a technical issue and I cannot enter the classroom, I will contact parents through the classroom page and I will also contact Outschool. Keep an eye on email, as you'll likely see messages there.
2c. I will not contact parents of absent students during class, but will contact them after to transfer the student to a new section, if available.
3. I will always finish class as close to the scheduled amount of time as possible. Depending on low enrollment numbers or extended discussion for very active speakers, the class may run a few minutes short or long, but typically within 5 minutes early or late.
4. If a class has no learners when class is meant to begin, I will wait 10 minutes before exiting the classroom. If this happens, I will give parents the option of transferring them to a new section, if available.
5. Classroom expectations are as follows:
i. Students will NOT be muted in the classroom. I hope that this allows space for free flowing conversation. I will always go over the rules of the classroom at the beginning of class (unless it's a multi-day, then I may only go over them the first day).
ii. Students are expected to participate as much as they can or feel comfortable. If a student is too shy to raise their hand, that is okay. If your student needs to stand up for their lesson or bring a stuffed animal or toy with them to class to make them more comfortable, that's okay too! I want your child to have FUN and LEARN in my classroom, so as long as they are engaging in the lesson, it doesn't matter to me what that looks like!
iii. If a sibling wants to watch the class, participate, do a craft with us, or engage in the lesson in any way, I ask that you please sign them up and pay the price per learner for them as well. I appreciate it!
