US Grade Kindergarten - 1
This phonics class is designed to teach students to read words with the sounds “ch, sh, th, and wh”. Students will also learn five new sight words in each class. Sight words are words that are commonly used, but often do not follow the phonics rules and must be memorized. Day One: -We will learn the sight words “the, I, see, is, in”. We will learn to read, spell and find these words in sentences. -We will learn the sounds that “ch” and “sh” make. Then we will practice reading “ch/sh” words with the help of picture clues. Finally, we will read sentences containing the sight words and ch/sh words. Day Two: -We will learn the sight words “and, a, you, he, she”. We will learn to read, spell and find these words in sentences. -We will learn the sounds that “th” and “wh” make. Then we will practice reading “th/wh” words with the help of picture clues. Next, we will play a board game to review the new words. Finally, we will read sentences containing the sight words and th/wh words. If time allows, we will end each lesson with a review worksheet. If we run out of time, these worksheets can be done as homework. I will be using a colorful slide presentation for each lesson, to help make learning to read fun for the students. I love to have students participate in my classes. I also like to give them many opportunities to read and interact with the slides. I hope to see your learner in my class! *Before taking this class, students should be able to read CVC words. (CVC = words such as bag, hit, mop, and set,) They should also know the sound of individual letters. *ESL and ELA learners are welcome!

Bachelor's Degree in Education from Calvary Bible College
Hello! My name is Mary Jane. I have a B.S. degree in elementary education from Calvary Bible College. I also have a 120-hour TESOL certificate. My husband and I live in Nebraska and are the parents of six awesome kids! I have homeschooled each of our children through high school. In addition to homeschooling, I've also taught ESL online to students all over the world since 2016. I love to see children learn and have fun while learning! My hope is that each child will feel comfortable in my classes and will feel free to ask questions about things they don't understand. Most of my classes are interactive and student-centered. I am looking forward to seeing your learner in my classroom!
