Reading Tutoring

Each session is customized for a student's specific reading comprehension goals/needs based on parent/guardian provided information and teacher observation. 

The first session is a get to know you time, where we will set a baseline for future classes. Students complete a quick reading assessment for the instructor to gauge reading abilities so the correct texts can be used in future sessions. 

During each class, we will read a short nonfiction or fiction passage (depending on goals) or part of a passage focusing on
*vocabulary, 
*context clues
*plot structure
*characterization (internal and external)
*quote analysis
*theme
*text structure
*text features

Students will engage in discussions and create annotations about the text, and record information on teacher provided documents. 

After each class, parents/guardians will be provided with a summary of what was covered and what will be reviewed in the next class.
