Welcome to Miss Lisa's TUTORING class! I believe that all students have the potential to learn! As a teacher, my job is to identify the next best thing for your child to take on and grow his skills from there. I am open to tutoring via methods I have been trained in or as a 'homework helper' - helping your student with a curriculum that is currently challenging him. I have years of experience working with a wide variety of students with autism, dyslexia, ADHD/ADD, as well as students with a variety of other learning disabilities. My goal is to understand your child's unique way of learning and help him achieve the educational task in front of him. With over 30 years of experience in education as well as private 1-on-1 tutoring, I offer a myriad of ways to help your learner. More specifically, I have taught and tutored in: >> English Language Arts preK-12, and >> remedial reading and writing, preK-12. Although the above areas are my strengths, I am willing to tailor the lessons to your child's needs to the best of my ability. My expertise comes from years of teaching both teachers and students in group, classroom, and 1-on-1 settings. In addition, my educational background supports my work as a continuous learner myself: B.A. in French, B.A. in Psychology, M.A. in Education, K-12 French Teaching License, 1-6 Elementary Teaching License. *I also have three, internationally recognized, certifications in reading: Reading Recovery Certificate, Leveled Literacy Interventionist Certificate, and Literacy Coordinator Certificate. To help me know your child's needs and to help you know if my style is a good fit for you, I recommend that you sign up for a minimum of three sessions. After that, it might be easier to decide if you would like to continue. *Lesson #1 is a 'get to know you' lesson as well as an informal assessment, preparing for quality, individualized lessons ahead. *Lesson #2 - is the completion of any assessments, a 'get set up' lesson as well as the beginning of our individualized tutoring. *Lesson #3 and beyond - will be tailored to your child's specific need as was identified in Lessons #1 & 2. Parent communication is a valuable piece of information in my teaching. You know YOUR child and the learning journey he has been on thus far. Details from that can be pivotal in my assessments. So, I prefer that you, as parents or guardians, keep me apprised of what your hopes are for each lesson as I meld that with what I learn about your child via formal and informal routine assessments. As you prefer, homework is assigned per your request (I may recommend homework... but the decision is yours). My ultimate hope is to help build your student’s confidence in how to successfully approach any learning challenge as well as discover how to conquer it, caring for your child's ups and downs along the way. Looking forward to working with your family! :) Miss Lisa *Please note that I take very few students at a time so that I can be open for more support to families. If you do not see anything currently available, feel free to message me and I can either find an unscheduled window or I can keep your child on my waiting list.*

Hello!
My name is Miss Lisa, and I LOVE learning. I love it so much that once upon a time, I became a teacher! Becoming a teacher made me realize that I could never stop being a learner as well.
Since 1994, I have had a variety of teaching opportunities. I have taught both middle school and high school French. I have taught Elementary School in both English and French Immersion. Literacy intervention instruction became a part of my career by becoming a Reading Recovery Teacher and, after that, a Literacy Coordinator. Teaching teachers, consulting, home educating, and tutoring all ages have also been a part of my professional journey for over thirty years. Because I have been blessed with continuous coaching and training, throughout this fascinating variety of teaching others, I have continued to grow as well!
For me, teaching a student of any age, and at any stage of his learning, is always a privilege. I believe everyone is capable of learning. I also believe that, as an instructor, it is my job to discover how to find those windows of possibility and teach from a child’s known skills… building a bridge to help him succeed in his next area of need.
On the Outschool platform, I plan on offering courses in reading comprehension, literacy tutoring, and French! Learning can be fun, even when it is a challenge. I hope that you and your child will join me on the journey of never-ending learning!
Warmly,
Miss Lisa
