Description

Class Experience

Students will learn to support their opinions using evidence from text and/or video citations.
Students will learn character development (what is it and how does it apply to this lesson).
Students will begin the brainstorming portion of a compare/contrast essay or an argumentative or persuasive essay.
I have been an English teacher for over 20 years. I have taught in both public and private schools.
Learners should come to class having already read and completed reading The Little Mermaid. Additionally, they should have already watched the Disney version of The Little Mermaid and be ready to discuss in class.
A copy of the text can be found here - https://gutenberg.ca/ebooks/andersen-mermaid/andersen-mermaid-00-h.html A copy of the movie can be found on Disney Plus. This is for those students who have access to the video in some capacity.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
There will be a Kahoot at the end of the lesson.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
No account to the Gutenberg Project is required. The published writings on that site are in the public domain. If learners choose to use a different method of reading the text (other than the Gutenberg Project), please be aware that there may be images of mermaids without the modesty shells.
We will refer to the text multiple times throughout the class. The text can be found here - https://gutenberg.ca/ebooks/andersen-mermaid/andersen-mermaid-00-h.html
