Join me as I read "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens! We will follow the story of Scrooge as he learns to leave behind his miserly ways with the help of the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. This is a read aloud class, but we will also view a few clips of various "A Christmas Carol" movies at the end of the last class meeting. I believe that children of all ages, not just little ones, benefit from being read to! I will spend the majority of each class reading aloud. After each class, students will be expected to read a bit on their own before the next class. Because this is a rather short story, there will not be a lot of at home reading. At the beginning of each class, we will discuss the pages that they read on their own, then I will read aloud, then we will use the last few minutes of class to answer any questions the learners might have. I will not be asking the students to read, instead I will be doing the reading. I do this so that students who are shy, have social anxiety, have dyslexia, or otherwise do not feel comfortable reading aloud, can still participate in a book study without the pressures some feel in that environment. Students need their own copy of "A Christmas Carol" so that they can follow along during class and complete the assigned out of class reading, but this story can be found for free online at https://www.gutenberg.org/files/46/46-h/46-h.htm No reading needs to be done prior to the first class, but will be assigned at the end of each class to be completed before the next meeting.
