This class is a follow-up to any of my Reading Spanish is Easy classes or for any student who has already learned how to read in Spanish. This class is taught in English.
Students will improve Spanish reading skills and Spanish fluency by practicing what they have learned previously.
I am bilingual in English and Spanish. I started learning Spanish in High School, taking 2 years of Spanish classes in High School and 1 year of Spanish classes at DePaul University. Those classes helped me to build a great foundation in reading fluently in Spanish and speaking the language. For the past 20+ years, I have immersed myself in the Spanish language and culture. Most native Spanish speakers are amazed when they hear me read and speak Spanish because they say I do so without an English accent. Why take this class with me? Because I am not a native Spanish speaker. This may sound a little odd to some, but let me explain: As a Spanish language learner myself, I understand the complications that native English speakers have when learning to read and speak Spanish. This makes me relatable and effective. I can explain things in a way that makes sense to English-speaking learners. When I began learning Spanish over 20 years ago, I learned how to read quickly. Even though I was too shy to speak Spanish for many years, I could read so fluently that people were shocked to learn that I didn't speak it well. Now I can read, comprehend, and speak Spanish at a B2 level. I have been teaching Spanish classes virtually for the past 3 years. Many students who have taken my class did not know any Spanish at first and by the end of the school year can now confidently read in Spanish and hold a basic conversation.
