Reading Spanish Is Easy! Semester 2 - Spanish Phonics (FLEX)
What's included
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Worksheets will be provided to practice what is learned. Each should take approximately 5-15 minutes to complete.Class Experience
Learning to read is the basic foundation to help language learners increase their vocabulary to become fluent in the target language. Knowledge of letter names is preferred, but not necessary for this class. It is implied in the videos of previous knowledge of letter names, however, this class can be taken in conjunction with learning letter names. I introduce Spanish letter phonics in an order that will have learners reading words from the first week. Each week on the selected day of the week at 8am Central Time, I will post a new pre-recorded video to view for instruction for that week. Learners are expected to repeat out loud the letter sounds and words while watching the video. I give time during the video so that they are able to do so. Worksheets will be posted in the classroom section along with the video. These worksheets are designed to help learners practice what is introduced during the pre-recorded video sent for the week. They are brief, simple, and engaging. Learners can complete the worksheets at their own pace, with a preference for completing one worksheet a day for daily practice. For review sessions, learners will have the option to send a video of themselves reading the review words and I will send feedback via video. Here is the breakdown of the class: Week 1: Letter sounds for vowels and 3 consonants Week 2: Letter sounds for 4 consonants and review Week 3: Letter sounds for 6 consonants Week 4: Letter sounds for 6 consonants Week 5: Letter sounds for 3 consonants and review Week 6: Letter sounds for 3 diagraphs and review Week 7: Letter sounds for 1 digraph & 2 consonants and review Week 8: Review

Teacher expertise and credentials
With my bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, as well as my experience as a language learner and instructor, I bring a unique expertise to my Spanish classes. Having started learning Spanish in high school and continuing my studies at the university level, I have built a solid foundation in reading fluency and spoken proficiency.
Over the past 20+ years, I have immersed myself in the Spanish language and culture. My ability to read and speak Spanish without an English accent is a testament to my dedication and commitment to mastering the language.
What sets me apart as a Spanish teacher is my personal experience as a non-native Spanish speaker. I understand the challenges and complexities that English speakers face when learning Spanish. This relatability allows me to effectively explain concepts in a way that makes sense to English-speaking learners. Drawing from my own language learning journey, I can provide valuable insights and strategies to help students overcome obstacles and achieve their language goals.
For the past three years, I have been teaching Spanish classes virtually, and I have witnessed tremendous growth in my students' language abilities. Many of my students began with little to no knowledge of Spanish and, by the end of the school year, have gained the confidence to read in Spanish and engage in basic conversations.
