In honor of Black History Month, students will listen to Margot Lee Shetterly's Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race. Before reading students will be exposed to the idea of informational texts being grouped but historical, scientific or technical texts. We will preview questions including; "Who does the author treat as important?" and "How can you describe their relationship?" These guiding questions will lead students to examine how author's organize informational texts. To conclude students will discuss then write a short response to show their understanding of the text. Students will be welcomed and encouraged to share ideas and ask questions to learn about these fascinating women.
Learning Goals
Students will be exposed to the topic of Black History in the form of the read a loud.
Students will investigate how author's organize informational texts.
Students will practice written response using the R.A.C.E.S format.
