US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Join anytime! In this full year ongoing course, students will learn phonics patterns, then use them to build, read, and write words. We will also learn/review a few sight words (so that we can read sentences)! Using phonics patterns to read short words is a foundational reading skill, and sets students up to successfully decode larger words. During this class, we will use letter cards, hand signals, sorts, and games to gain lots of exposure to words with phonics patterns. With practice, learners will become fluent in reading these words! Before taking this class, students should be able to confidently read CVC (3-letter) words. This is an on-going class, so each week's lesson is stand alone and does not require pre-requisite knowledge from previous classes in this course. An optional independent practice activity will be provided weekly to extend learning at home. I have a fun, consistent, and familiar teaching style which allows students to feel safe and comfortable in the classroom. I do not cancel for low enrollments. If your student is the only learner in class, I will still plan to teach. I accept transfer requests with 24 hour notice to the class start time. Per Outschool policy, I do NOT refund for missed class. Content for this course will cycle every calendar year in September. Learners are welcome to join anytime. Parents are responsible for keeping track of when their child was enrolled to avoid repeated lessons, if desired. Learners are invited to stay in the class for repeated lessons when useful and applicable.
