Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this class, we will determine your child's intervention needs to prepare for 1:1 tutoring.

Once enrolled, please send your child's current grade level so that we can prepare the forms for the screening.

By evaluating students in Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade, as well as older students who might need extra help, we can tailor our approach to meet each child's unique needs.

Please allow 24-36 hours for the final results to be posted in the Outschool classroom.

If a student is reading at or above a 2nd-grade level, our phonics program will be too easy for them.

Through a series of 1-minute assessments, we will assess your child's nonsense word reading fluency, word reading fluency, and oral reading fluency.

Grades K-2: The student will read from a list of nonsense words to assess phonics skills.
Grades K-2: The student will read from a list of words to determine high-frequency word knowledge.
Grades 1-2 The student will read a short passage to determine fluency and accuracy rate.

This intervention that follows is a systematic phonics-based approach.

Angelica and a small team of tutors provide one-on-one and small group instruction for emerging and struggling readers.

We have a robust online reading curriculum and have been serving families for over 5 years!

Viva Phonics uses a structured literacy approach to help struggling readers achieve reading success. Each phonics lesson is strategically designed to help your struggling reader master new skills and gain confidence in their reading ability.

Readers start by increasing their understanding of letter-sound relationships. This is key to helping students recognize familiar words and decode new words. The ability to decode helps readers grasp new vocabulary and apply new terms correctly.

Readers gradually build reading fluency through repetition, practice and drills. This new ability to read words quickly, accurately and with expression will improve a student's comprehension skills, increasing his appetite for reading and devouring all things words.

Then, readers develop a rock-solid foundation in spelling through dictation exercises – an integral part of reading – by practicing the speech sounds verbally, and spelling those speech sounds accurately. A strong speller is a strong reader and writer!
