Reading Rules! Sight Word Strategies From a Certified Teacher
In this ongoing class we will focus on a different phonics patterns each week! Students will then apply these "rules" to high frequency words that are often on Dolch lists.

Class Experience
Often time in schools, teachers will give a weekly list of "sight words" for students to memorize based off of the Dolch list. The 100 most frequently used high-frequency words, often called sight words, make up 50% of all text! Being able to read and spell these words are essential! However, the best way to tackle these high-frequency words IS NOT TO MEMORIZE THEM!!! Research shows that the fastest and most effective way to develop the strong readings areas of the brain is to teach...
Students will learn reading strategies that apply to sight words, high-frequency words, and words they may encounter in the future!
Certified Teacher with my K-6 Elementary Education license and endorsements in reading and ESOL. I have worked with students in reading in a variety of capacities like one on one, small group, whole group, and with exceptionally educated students. I am currently working toward by Orton-Gillingham certification in reading.
OPTIONAL: Students will be given the list of high-frequency words covered after class. Parents and children are encouraged to practice these words.
Something to write on, something to write with (paper/pen, whiteboard/marker) A "pop it" fidget (optional) A quiet space and/or headphones Other materials may be requested depending on the activities. These will be posted in the classroom ahead of class.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
