In this class we will explore beginner phonemic awareness and phonics skills. Phonemic awareness focuses on the sounds the letters make. Phonics connects those sounds to letters. Phonemic Awareness is an essential early literacy skill. Beginning readers must be able to look at letters and manipulate the sounds (phonemes) that each letter makes. Students will increase ability to listen for and manipulate phonemes (letter sounds). Students will increase ability to identify and manipulate letter sounds. Students will be able to decode CVC words in isolation and in books.
I am a certified Reading Specialist K-12 with a Masters in Reading Education. I have 15+ years teaching reading in Pre-K through grade 5 in public and private schools. I began teaching reading as Director and Head Teacher of Preschool. I spent several years as a Reading Specialist in a public elementary school working with grades K-5. When I became a military spouse (moving every 2 years), I transitioned to virtual teaching I have been with Outschool since June 2018.
