English Assessment for ESL Students
Reading Masters! Multi-Sensory Reading, Spelling, & Writing | Dyslexia
Class experience
In my classroom, students with dyslexia will learn to love reading, spelling, and writing! Based on an initial assessment, every lesson will be designed to fit each child’s individual strengths and goals. Students will gain confidence and feel empowered as they learn reading and writing skills in an order that follows the natural development of language. As we gradually build on those skills, each student will gain the tools they need to properly decode (sound out) and encode (spell)...
Students will gain a better understanding of the structure of the English language. Each child will learn the tools they need to break unfamiliar words into smaller, familiar letter patterns. This knowledge will improve their ability to decode and spell unfamiliar words, which will in turn lead to greater overall comprehension. They will become more confident in their reading skills, and lower the stress that a dyslexic student may experience everyday.
I am an Orton-Gillingham associate in training. I have six years of teaching experience both in the classroom and online. In January of 2020, I began to notice the severe need for proper, effective literacy instruction for children with dyslexia. I began my Orton-Gillingham training a few months later, and have fallen in love with the approach and the progress that I see in every one of my students. I currently teach 1:1 at my private tutoring center in Colorado, where I work both in-person and online with my students. I am thrilled to bring these highly effective teaching techniques to you and your learners, and can not wait to meet you!
In order for students to get the most from the Orton-GIllingham approach, they will need: - Tablet * This will allow students to read and write as they would on paper. - Stylus * Used for writing on the tablet. - Explain Everything app (free) * This online whiteboard allows us to write and interact in real time. Your tablet must be able to access and download the ExplainEverything app. For this, you will need the following software updates: iPadOS - version 13.6 or higher Android - 6.0 Marshmallow During each session we will meet on Zoom and I will provide the code for that day's Explain Everything lesson. We will chat and interact via Zoom, but your learner will see the lesson pages on their tablet and we will practice reading and writing using the tablet.
