A parent or other adult will need to attend the class with the child to assist with writing the stories. In the first lesson, students will listen to a story read by the teacher. Then we will write our own class story based on the story read. At the end of the lesson the teacher will create a word doc of the story created by the children, and email it to the parents. In the second class, students will write individual stories with their parents help. The teacher will guide the process. Parents will receive tips on facilitating the process and encouraging the child to read their own stories. Children are encouraged to illustrate their stories. After writing and illustrating the kids can post their stories to the classroom to be shared. In the third class, Children will read their stories to one another, with as much support as needed. Children will be congratulated for their successes. We will then, talk about what an author is and children will write a short author's note. In class four Children will write or dictate short notes to one another about what they liked about each other's stories. These notes will be provided to each child for their story. Parents will receive a handout with instructions on how to print bind and save their child's story for future readings. This course is based on the whole language learning approach to reading. It is not meant to be a total learning curriculum but an enjoyable supplemental to help children learn the joy of reading their own words.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Asbury College (University)
I believe children learn best through play and fun. For thirty plus years I relied upon this knowledge to help young children learn. Kids want to read, but sometimes the mechanics seem overwhelming. Breaking reading down into bite-sized pieces where kids experience success, is the key to igniting a passion for reading and learning. I still have books my own children 'wrote' at this age!
