US Grade Kindergarten
In this self-paced course, we will build on what we learned in levels 1 through 3 by reviewing basic letter sounds and simple CVC words then introduce new word families, high frequency words and read simple sentences. Previous courses are not required in order to complete this course. Students are encouraged to join the class that best fits their skill level and educational needs. For help determining this, feel free to contact me. A self-paced course does not rely on live meetings but instead has videos, worksheets and other posts in the Outschool classroom. This is ideal for learning letter sounds because your child can practice over and over again. In addition, every child can learn at their own pace. Each week we will have a brief review of the letters/sounds we will use, we will practice blending simple CVC words and introduce new word families, high frequency words and read simple sentences. On Mondays and Wednesdays I will post a short video introducing the word families and sight words for that week. We will work together to do word stackers, identify words that contain the word families, have fun rhyming and practice simple blending and segmenting strategies to build a good foundation for reading. Every Friday I will post a video including a game or activity to help review what we learned throughout the week. This may include a scavenger hunt, picture sort, bingo and more. Students can look forward to sharing what they did each week and will be able to post pictures to the classroom to show off what they learned! ⭐ Students should know all their letter names and sounds and be able to independently read many CVC words before joining this class. Please see my other listings for help with this. ⭐ There are no live meetings for this class. Since there are no live meetings, you will be able to watch all the videos and complete all the activities on your own schedule. ⭐ If you are not receiving emails about posts to the classroom after the first couple days in class, please check your emails SPAM folder. Often messages from OutSchool end up there and get lost. ⭐ Students will need a whiteboard and marker (paper and pencil will work), crayons and printouts of the provided worksheets. Students will also need access to "Bob Books: Set 3 Word Families”. These can be purchased at Amazon (link below) or may be available to checkout at your local library (hard copy or digital).
Learning Goals
By the end of this class, your student will be able to sound out basic CVC words, read the high frequency words discussed in class and read simple sentences.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I hold a bachelor’s degree in special education, along with additional training in teaching the arts and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). With over 20 years of experience working with children, I’ve been a certified teacher, a homeschool mom, and an educator for diverse age groups and subjects. My teaching background spans from severe-profound special education preschool to honors high school, but my greatest passion lies in the arts and creative education. I specialize in drawing, brick building, elementary literacy, special education, and baking—I even own a small bakery!
Art has always been close to my heart, and I love exploring various mediums, including drawing, paper crafts, oil paints, and acrylics. Art is not just a form of expression but also a way to build creativity and confidence. In my teaching, I focus on developing skills, exploring techniques, and inspiring others to find joy in creating unique works of art.
Reading and writing are equally important to me. I enjoy delving into different genres and using storytelling to spark imagination. Teaching literacy allows me to help students express themselves while building essential skills. My goal is to make reading exciting and writing an empowering form of creativity.
Baking is another passion I’m thrilled to share. Teaching baking classes allows me to bring people together through the joy of creating something delicious. From learning essential techniques to exploring creative recipes, I strive to make every class approachable, fun, and rewarding.
Outside the classroom, my husband and I enjoy adventures with our three children, whether camping, hiking, visiting the park, doing arts and crafts, or playing board games as a family.
I can’t wait to bring creativity and joy to our class—see you soon!
