🎯Students will begin this class by exercising their brains by manipulating letters sounds in a fun phonemic awareness game. ("say met, change the m to n and what do you hear?") They will play an engaging rhyming game as well as focus on vocabulary word work. The student's work will focus on beginning sounds, blends and vowel sounds.
This class is for beginning readers or readers who want to strengthen their letter sound skills and become stronger readers and writers. We will work on rhyming, vowels, word parts, and reading words in context. Feel free to enroll your child for repeated classes, the word work and rhyming focus will change with each class. Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom. My name is Betty Nilssen. I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.
However, I incorporate math, writing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers, as well.
