This course is specifically designed for children who want to become more confident and fluent readers. With interesting and age-appropriate reading passages and lessons, your child will practice skills and strategies that will help them succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Our experienced teacher will guide learners through each session, providing instruction, warm-up exercises, skills check-ups, and fun games to keep them engaged and motivated. Each week, learners will receive the passage or story beforehand, allowing them to review or print it out if they wish. They'll have the opportunity to read aloud, either individually or as a group, or to simply listen to the teacher read.

Throughout the course, we'll focus on a range of important skills, including decoding, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar. Whether your child needs additional practice or is simply looking to prevent summer learning loss, this course is the perfect solution.

📓 Schedule 
Week 1- Summarize, predict, make connections, and analyze characters.
contractions, plurals, adjectives, proper nouns

Week 2 - Solve words, infer, compare/contrast, and critique events.
Suffixes, words with 2 or more vowels together, words that end with a vowel, and conjunctions.

Week 3 - Problem/solution, descriptive language, cause/effect, and ask questions.
Pronouns, words w/ 3 or more syllables, and action verbs.

Week 4 - Context clues, make connections between characters, infer, and draw conclusions.
Possessive nouns, words with /th/, /sh/, or /ch/, homophones, and words with double consonants.

Passages are based on the Fountas and Pinell levels L-P or approximately a Lexile Level range of 400 - 700. If you're unsure of what level your child is on or know their level on a different rating system (i.e. DRA or Lexile), check out:

Teacher is flexible and will change the reading Lexile leveled-passages based on where the students are academically.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. Students will receive practice in the following:
- Comprehension skills: summarizing, predicting, making connections, analyzing characters, inferencing, comparing and contrasting, cause and effect, context clues, and drawing conclusions (fiction and nonfiction text)
- Grammar: contractions, plurals, adjectives, nouns, suffixes, conjunctions, pronouns, verbs, and  homophones
- Vocabulary: words found in-text to help build comprehension 

Common Core Standards
Students will:
- Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.3.3; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.4.3; & CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.5.3)
- Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.3.4; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.4.4; & CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.5.4)

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Teacher will use Kahoot for some classes. Students will not need to sign up and they will only have access during class time with a teacher-provided link. Google Slides will be available for students for reading passages. Materials are age and grade-appropriate, however, parental guidance is recommended. Links used in the course will be provided before class for parents to review beforehand.
Supply List
I will screen share all reading materials used in the course. I will provide links to Nearpod and Google Slides where appropriate and when used, as well as upload files for parents and students. Printed copies of passages are highly recommended. I also recommend colored pencils, pens, or crayons for students to have on hand.
