Welcome to our GT literature course! This one-time class follows the principles of a literature circle to offer gifted learners the opportunity to engage in enriching discussions about challenging literature. During our course, students will receive a copy of a challenging text and read aloud together, receiving tips and coaching on reading fluency as well as oral interpretation techniques. Then, we will spend our remaining time engaged in a guided discussion where students have the opportunity to test theories and interpretations, engage in multiple-perspective conversations, and dig deeper into the text, learning various literary analysis strategies.
Learning Goals
*Students will gain exposure to a wide range of literary texts representing various genres, authors, time periods, cultures, and perspectives, including stories, dramas, and poems within a complexity band appropriate to age and level
*Students will be able to cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
*Students will determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.
*Students will analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact (for example: how setting shapes the characters or plot)
