In this ongoing class learners will discuss a current event topic from around the world each week with a Certified Elementary Teacher.
Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
In this on-going class learners will learn about a current event that is going on in our world. Each child will be responsible for reading through a weekly article that is taken from our current news headlines found from reputable kid friendly news sources and then coming to class with questions that we can discuss as a group. The article will be age appropriate for your learner. Then we will complete a thinking map with all of our newly discovered information. Learners will be reminded...
Students will improve their knowledge on current events as well as work on their public speaking skills.
I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I currently have 17 years of classroom experience and I am currently certified in elementary (K-6) and special education (K-12). I have 17 years experience teaching all academic subjects (Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, and Language Arts). I have 17 years of experience with leading appropriate discussions with children in the classroom. I teach this because it is an important skill for children to master.
Homework Offered
Each week a new article will be assigned and the learner will be expected to be familiar with the article and prepared to discuss it.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Please make sure that your learner is ready to have an age appropriate discussion. Conversations that are violent or sexual in nature or discuss a sensitive political issue may not be discussed. Please discuss this with your learner before class begins. Learners will be reminded when the class begins that this is a safe place for discussion. They will be made aware that while not everyone may agree with everything that is said that they are expected to be respectful of each other’s opinion. In this class we will draw from multiple reputable news media resources, both for a diversity of perspectives and reliability.
