Description

Class Experience

This on-going class will focus on reading fluency and comprehension skills for learners who are at a beginning to middle grade 2 level.  Students will practice their reading and phonics skills in class as well as complete verbal and written comprehension questions.

Students will improve their decoding, fluency and reading comprehension skills.

I have a master's degree in art therapy as well as have been a special education teacher for the past 11 years. I am also a reading interventionist and enjoy helping students gain mastery over their reading and comprehension.  Grades K-2 are key for "learning how to read" and then grades 3 and up have expectations that students are "reading to learn."

There will be reading passages, phonics and comprehension to be practiced outside of class. Parents will need to sign papers and send back to teacher to show that their child completed the assigned work.  It is very important that students complete their homework so they are ready for the next skill level.

Teacher will email any papers that students need for class or homework.

Students will be assesed through fluency timings, in class comprehension questions as well as homework assignments.

2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
