Reading with Mrs. Rose: In this class, students will practice their reading skills with digital books and passages. Short vowel phonics skills will be addressed based on the story we are reading. We will work on questioning and comprehension skills. Students need to understand thinking is essential to reading. Through discussion, students will be able to show their thinking while reading. Students will improve their reading and comprehension skills, as well as their writing skills.
Having the materials prepared prior to class, will help your student learn organizational skills. Please provide a quiet work space for them. Worksheets will be sent out Sunday evenings. Please print prior to class. They will be posted to the classroom, as well as the learner's message area. Pencil, crayons or markers. (I have found markers to work best, as then I can see the writing when students share.) White board and dry erase markers
***Students MUST be able to decode (sound out) words with fluency in order to be successful in this class. This class is geared toward 5, 6, and 7 year olds. This class is geared toward the beginner reader who needs more supported practice, as well as the uninterested or disengaged reader. The books used in this class are highly decodable short vowel words and also have a strong support of sight words.***
A subscription and authorization for use has been acquired by the teacher to use digitally formatted books and video clips. Digital books and videos will presented using screen share. Students will not need to access any other platform during class.
