Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
Do you have a learner ready to embark on their reading journey? If the answer is YES! Then this is the perfect class for your little one.

Students will learn to become skilled and fluent readers. Children must have a repertoire of strategies to draw on to achieve the goal. The strategy used in this class includes utilizing knowledge of sound-spelling relationships and understanding phonics.

Reading is one of the most important skills that a child must learn. Early reading is the fundamental principle in a child's academic success. Phonics instruction helps children learn the relationships between the letters of written language and the sounds of spoken language. Children are taught, for example, that the letter n represents the sound /n/ and that it is the first letter in words such as nose, nice, and new.

Did you know that there are three benefits to teaching early reading:
1) Brain development
2) Early vocabulary development
3) Better writing

In this class, students meet weekly to learn how to read. Before enrolling, please note that students should be able to recognize all letters in the alphabet and elemental sounds. We will begin by reviewing our letter sounds. This will help students decode words. The student will then incorporate letter blend and spelling to help them become wonderful little readers. Our class will cover the following objectives: letter blending (words and phonics), phonic song, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, reading, and phonic rules (for example short and long vowel rules).

Students will be taught through the Outschool platform. During class, students will have a visual ad of the lesson and the objective through Canva, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Boomcard, and Youtube music. Students will access Cherry Learning Center, a private Youtube channel to help reinforce what's learned in class. We learn to read through different methods, such as singing, dancing, clapping to our songs, and creating a reader's book and sight words booklet.
