Because this class is limited in the number of learners allowed in, I do not offer refunds or credits for missed classes. The price also reflects the small class size and necessary student/teacher ratio. In this ongoing class, we will practice reading fluency using first and second-grade fiction and nonfiction passages. I will use different strategies such as model, group, echo, and reciprocal reading to increase fluency. This class is the perfect "next step" for my learners who have already taken my other reading classes and are ready for more of a challenge! We will have timed reading challenges that my learners love using a first read (cold read) and a second read (hot read) but don't worry, the focus isn't to beat each other, but to beat their own first reading! Passages will be uploaded to the classroom each week the day before class. I recommend printing these fluency passages so students can continue their reading practice throughout the week from class to class. ***Because children can be on varying reading levels in the same class, I stick to first and second-grade passages. However, in the event that the majority of my students need a lower-level reading passage, I will pull one of those out for class;) If a passage proves to be very challenging for the majority of my learners, we will probably stay on that particular reading passage for two weeks. Fluency is gained when learners are able to practice with slightly challenging material repetitiously. 8. 2nd Grade Reading Comprehension: This class is for students in first grade who are strong readers, students on second-grade reading level, or students in third grade who may need a little extra help. This class focuses heavily on comprehension, so if your child needs fluency practice, see my previous three classes on this list! This is an ongoing class that meets once per week covering the five big comprehension skills (direct recall, inferences/predictions, unfamiliar vocabulary using context clues, main idea and details, and sequencing) using second-grade fiction and nonfiction passages.
