US Grade 1 - 4
This class is designed to help students look at multi-syllable words closely for prefixes, suffixes, and root/base words. We will work through what some of the most commonly used prefixes and suffixes mean, work on reading fluency (speed/accuracy of reading), apply their meaning in context, and play a game together. Students will also be given handouts that they can use at home for optional extra reading practice. This class is for students reading at a later first grade-third grade reading level to help make more meaning of what they are reading. The skills that we work on together will help students build confidence in looking for parts of words closely and understanding how a prefix/suffix affects the meaning of the root/base word. Here is what we will work on each week in class together: *New session starting August 22 Class 1-What is a prefix? -un, non-week of Aug. 22 Class 2-prefix: mis-week of Aug. 29 Class 3-prefix: re-week of Sept. 5 Class 4-prefix: pre-week of Sept. 12 Class 5-prefix: dis-week of Sept. 19 Class 6-prefix: in, im-week of Sept. 26 Class 7-prefixes: over, super-week of Oct. 3 Class 8-prefix: sub-week of Oct. 10 Class 9-prefix: semi-week of Oct. 17 Class 10-prefix: anti-week of Oct. 24 *This particular session will be ending after this class.* Class 11-prefix: under-week of Class 12-What is a suffix? -s, -es-week of Class 13-suffix: -ed-week of Class 14: suffix: -ing-week of Class 15: suffix: -er, -est-week of Class 16: suffix: -ful-week of Class 17: suffix: -less-week of Class 18: suffix: -er, or-week of Class 19: suffix: -able, ible- Class 20: suffix: -ly- Class 21: prefix: bi and tri-week of Class 22: prefix: mid- Class 23-prefix: de- Class 24-suffix:-ment- Class 25-review of prefixes- Class 26-review of suffixes- **Feel free to join us at anytime!**
