In this self-paced course, we will review basic letter sounds and simple CVC words, blending strategies for CVC/CCVC/CVCC words, long vowel sounds, vowel combinations, reading simple sentences and more! Students are encouraged to join the class that best fits their skill level and educational needs. For help determining this, feel free to contact me. A self-paced coursedoes not rely on live meetings but instead has videos, worksheets and other posts in the OutSchool classroom. This is ideal for learning to read because your child can practice over and over again and every child can learn at their own pace. On Mondays and Wednesdays I will post a short video as needed and worksheets introducing the sounds and sight words for that week. We will work together to build words, identify words that contain the different sounds, have fun rhyming and practice simple blending and segmenting strategies to build a good foundation for reading. Every Friday I will post a game or activity and a video as needed to help review what we learned during the week. This may include a scavenger hunt, picture sort, bingo and more. Students can look forward to sharing what they did each week and will be able to post pictures to the classroom to show off what they learned! ⭐ Students should know all their letter names and sounds and be able to independently read CVC words before joining this class. I hold a bachelor’s degree in special education, along with additional training in teaching the arts and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). With over 20 years of experience working with children, I’ve been a certified teacher, a homeschool mom, and an educator for diverse age groups and subjects. My teaching background spans from severe-profound special education preschool to honors high school, but my greatest passion lies in the arts and creative education. Outside the classroom, my husband and I enjoy adventures with our three children, whether camping, hiking, visiting the park, doing arts and crafts, or playing board games as a family.
