What's included
1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one time class, learners that are emergent readers will come to learn three sight words-has, a, the, and learn to read a story about Elephant Parts by Howard Minsky while echo reading with the teacher. This means that when we echo read, every child will be unmuted. My class is structured to ensure all learners feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas. I'll always start class with introductions and have everyone share something about them themselves such as their age, favorite toy, color, etc. I make my classes as interactive as possible. My teaching style is friendly and warm. Learners do not need any required experience or knowledge for this class. The agenda will be as follows: 1) Introductions 2) Sight Words-(has, a, the) 3) Practice spelling these sight words (has, a, the) with the activity sheet that will be provided upon enrollment 4) Practice finding and coloring the sight words (has, a, the) on the activity sheets that will be provided upon enrollment 4) Read/Echo Read the story with the teacher 5)Trace the words and draw a picture of the following - trunk, mouth, ears, tail, eyes, and tusks 6) Draw a picture of your elephant, or use your Play-Doh to make an elephant! *Depending on time, some of the activity sheets that will be provided may be used for extension after class is over.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Alicia Carey, and I have been a teacher at a brick and mortar school for 18 years now! I also have my Master's in Education, and I love to continue to learn new strategies to help not only my students learn at school but also my children. Teaching Special Education students has been a joy throughout my years as a teacher, and it has given me the opportunity to adapt my teaching to each individual student as well as provide engaging lessons and strategies to ensure that all of my students are successful. Every child can be successful as long as they have the right teacher, tools, and strategies to help them get to where they need to be. I have taught at the middle school level for 18 years, and I have Co-taught Language Arts classes, Math 7, Math 8, Geography, and Science classes. I know the curriculum in these subject areas very well, and I absolutely love teaching math, writing and reading.
Two years ago, I started teaching for an online company and teach elementary aged students that live in China. Teaching online was a learning curve, and I have now made connections all over the world due to my adventure of teaching online for my Chinese students. I love getting to know each and every student and hope to do the same at Outschool.
My family consists of myself, my husband, three children, a guinea pig, and my mischievous dog. My family and I love to travel and see the world and my kids think it's so cool to have a mom that is also a teacher. :)
Please feel free to reach out to me if you need individual tutoring as that is also something that I have done for years and enjoy very much. I'm looking forward to teaching different subjects and learners of all ages and ability levels. I also enjoy cooking and teaching children facts about guinea pigs!
