Description

Class Experience

Learners will:
**Gain confidence in their ability to read and find joy in reading and listening to books in a low-stress but challenging, fun class.
**Blend and build words, switch sounds to make new words, read and write words, sort words by phonics patterns, and spell words by sounds.
**Read decodable reading passages with the teacher.
**Improve reading fluency and comprehension.
**Recognize and read target-specific sight words and words which don’t follow phonics rules.
** Build a phonics foundation by blending and manipulating sounds in real and nonsense words with:
     1) 3-sounds, short-vowel
     2) long vowel patterns
     3) 4-6 sounds
     4) letter-sound chunks
     5) multi-syllable words
     6) soft consonants
     7) added word endings
     8) sight words with targeted vowel patterns

About 10 minutes daily of reading fluency practice, using decodable stories/poems taught in class. Be sure to SAVE THESE in your Reading Detectives notebook or folder (see supplies). We will will reread these stories/poems together in the NEXT CLASS, to continue improving fluency.
