Reading Detectives: Break the Phonics Code and Read Fluently--Level C Camp
Help your child catch up, keep up, or get ahead in phonics and reading fluency this summer! Learn to blend letters and sounds, and practice reading, spelling, and writing words, as we build the phonics foundation needed to read fluently.

Description
Class Experience
Learners will: **Gain confidence in their ability to read and find joy in reading and listening to books in a low-stress but challenging, fun class. **Blend and build words, switch sounds to make new words, read and write words, sort words by phonics patterns, and spell words by sounds. **Read decodable reading passages with the teacher. **Improve reading fluency and comprehension. **Recognize and read target-specific sight words and words which don’t follow phonics rules. ** Build a phonics foundation by blending and manipulating sounds in real and nonsense words with: 1) 3-sounds, short-vowel 2) long vowel patterns 3) 4-6 sounds 4) letter-sound chunks 5) multi-syllable words 6) soft consonants 7) added word endings 8) sight words with targeted vowel patterns
About 10 minutes daily of reading fluency practice, using decodable stories/poems taught in class. Be sure to SAVE THESE in your Reading Detectives notebook or folder (see supplies). We will will reread these stories/poems together in the NEXT CLASS, to continue improving fluency.
Binder in which to keep all "detective work" Dry-erase board dry-erase markers and eraser paper pencil and eraser colored pencils for circling target words 3-4 index cards, any color class printable(s)--see attached files to print below NOTE: Each week's printables will be posted by Sunday prior to the following week's classes. PLEASE CHECK THE CLASSROOM each Sunday for any messages or printables needed for the next week.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners will be assessed informally through teacher observation during class to determine skills we need to review. NOTE: For parents who are unsure about which level to enroll their child in, I have a short assessment I can use with your child to help determine the level.
