Reading Comprehension/Test Taking Strategies - Digging to Find Answers in a Text
In this on-going course, students will learn the short-cuts and tricks to finding answers hidden within a text. They will learn skills to help them better understand what they are reading and apply it to be able to answer questions.

1 hour per week. There will be times that I will ask students to complete a reading and answer questions outside of class. These will be no longer than one page long and should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. These will be provided well in advance of our meeting times and are to ensure that we get the most of our live time together.Assessment
I will regularly communicate with parents about the progress the student is making on each standard. I will assess students using an online assessment (created by me) that will enable me to identify strengths and areas of weakness that we need to work on together.Class Experience

In this course, your child will learn how to better understand the passages they are reading. They will learn how to look for clues within a passage to find the answers to questions being asked and to do so in a timely fashion. Many times, students are timed in class and must read a passage and find the answers to questions about that passage within a set amount of time. This can lead to anxiety and poor report card grades. I want to empower your child to be able to quickly and confidently find the answers that are being asked of them and to, in turn, learn to enjoy the stories that they are being asked to read. Each week will have a different text and we will work to find answers for this text each session. This is a skill that requires lots of practice to master, so we will work to get better at these skills each week.
